Stamford’s Fire Consolidation Plan
Stamford’s Plan for “fire department consolidation” apparently is as follows:
1. 1997: Dan Malloy tried and put the Long Ridge FD out of business by Non-Funding. This was overturned in Rustici v. Malloy (May 29, 1998).
2. June 1999: Stamford forces Belltown, Glenbrook and Turn of River Volunteer Departments to enter into a one sided agreement to shift funds for all career firefighters to the Stamford Fire Rescue Department.
3. 2006: Launch a witch hunt in the form of an Audit of all Volunteer fire departments.
4. June 2007: Stamford informs Belltown, Glenbrook and Turn of River volunteer departments that if they don’t hand over the keys to everything they own, the city will remove career firefighters from the volunteer departments in an effort to destroy the Volunteer system. Reason stated: High overtime costs of the career firefighers in the volunteer stations. Mind you, STAMFORD took over management of that budget in 1999. Their solution: add career firefighters…. which makes no sense at all.
5. January 2008: City of Stamford removed career personnel in the expectation that the Belltown volunteer fire department would fold.
6. February 2008: When removing the career firefighters didn’t make the Belltown VFD fold, Dan Malloy cut funding from a reasonable amount to operate, to only $20,000.00 per year, for Belltown and Turn of River.
7. April 2008: City of Stamford decides to hire a consulting firm to undermine the effectiveness of the volunteer fire departments.
And the main stream media refuses to cover the truth !
Mayor Dan Malloy’s management style for running the City of Stamford appears to consist of the following traits and tactics:
Collusion: A secret understanding between two or more persons to gain something illegally.
Nepotism: Patronage bestowed or favoritism shown on the basis of family relationship, as in business and politics.
Extortion: The crime of obtaining money or some other thing of value by the abuse of one’s office or authority.
Coercion: To force or the power to use force in gaining compliance, as by a government.
Corruption: Perversion of integrity or dishonest proceedings.
Racketeering: The practice of conducting or engaging in a racket, as extortion.
Intimidation: To force into or deter from some action by inducing fear.
Narcissism: A person having an inflated idea of their own importance.
Megalomania: An obsession with grandiose or extravagant things or actions.
* In my opinion, if there was justice in this country, there would be an investigation on a state and federal level into the going’s on behind this attempt to destroy the volunteer fire service in Stamford !
